(F-0) Intro to Scriptural Arguments

The power of the doctrines of God and salvation does not lay in philosophical arguments, but in the veracity of the Scriptures themselves.  Man, left to his own imagination, opinion and whims, has developed all sorts of beliefs down through the ages.  Outside of the testimony of Scripture, we are left without an anchor in a sea of relativism; absolute Truth being unknowable.  We must find our source of absolute authority to be in something outside of ourselves.  God’s Word is that transcendent stake in the ground of Truth.

It is never easy to come into full submission to the Word of God.  It “kicks against the goads” of our human nature and prideful desire to be in control.  However, the genuine Truth-seeker must be willing to accept the teaching of Scripture, even when we don’t like what it has to say.  Over time, God can conform the heart to come to love even the difficult passages.

Let us not neglect our duty as Christians to bow the knee to the whole council of God.  In the battles for Truth that rage in the arena of our mind, may the authority of Scripture always win out over tradition and emotionalism.  It is one thing to hold to a certain interpretation of Scripture, it is another grievous thing to say, “I know what it says, but I just can’t accept that.”  With that in mind, let us now look to some of the Scriptural arguments for and against the Doctrines of Grace, and let the Scriptures be the judge.
