(B-4) Divine Compatibility: Sovereignty and Accountability
Premise:
This section will seek to explain how God, being completely sovereign over the affairs of men and at the same time holding people accountable for their actions, is not contradictory or mutually exclusive. It is an example of truth that is held in a divine tension that can only be fully understood by God. It falls into the same category as the Trinity being three persons in one God, or how Jesus could be 100% God and 100% man. To say that our finite minds can not contain the fullness of the truth would be correct, but to say that it can not be true, is wrong and short-sighted. We must learn from the lesson that God taught Job. Job said that only that which he could fully comprehend would he accept. God showed Job that His ways and thoughts were such that some things Job would have to accept by faith; such is the Providence of the Lord.
The best way to understand the correlation of these two ideas is found in what is called the “Compatibilist view”, which will be explained in this section.
